Chicago Grows Green Kickoff

April 30, 2018

If you've been keeping up with the latest environmental news, headlines such as "Weedkiller found in granola and crackers, internal FDA emails show" and "EU agrees total ban on bee-harming pesticides" probably sound familiar. You might even know that Commissioner Frank Avila partnered with Midwest Pesticide Action Center (MPAC) in order to reduce herbicide application on Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) property by 92% in June 2016. And in my latest blog post, I referenced a former EPA member's comparison to the pesticide industry as invisible chemical warfare

Every step toward a toxic-free life is a positive one and one to be celebrated; however, the work is far from over. Starting on May 11 until May 19, MPAC, MWRD, and many others will kickoff Chicago Grows Green (CGG) Week in order to educate the public about the dangers of synthetic chemicals and promote safer alternatives. What kind of future do we want? One with no pesticides, no “Keep off the Grass” signs, and no environmental and health risks.

Hope to see you at one of the following events!

Friday, May 11th

CGG Week Kickoff: Show your support for #CGGweek and efforts to combat flooding, water pollution, and air quality issues in the Chicago Calumet Region. MPAC, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Riverdale Park District and many more cover the state of Greater Chicago’s landscapes and the need to restore them at Ivanhoe Fieldhouse, 1 to 2 pm.
