February 18 to 24, 2018 is National Engineers Week!
Engineers, from architectural to environmental to mining, deserve at least a week to recognize and celebrate their hard work and accomplishments. They've existed since the beginning of human existence and have designed things as small as water pipes and as large as the MWRDGC McCook Reservoir!
On February 1, 2018, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Board of Commissioners recognized National Engineers Week through a resolution led by Commissioner Frank Avila and seconded by Commissioner Debra Shore, both engineers themselves. Watch the resolution here.
And read the mission of the MWRDGC Engineering Department here:
plan, develop, and implement a Capital Improvement Program that meets the District's statutory responsibilities in the areas of Sewage Treatment and Pollution Control;
regulate the construction and maintenance of local sewers which are tributary to the District's intercepting sewer system;
protect the safety of the county's residents and mitigate flood damage by coordinating, planning, implementing, and financing and operating regional stormwater management projects;
foster improvements in water quality within the watershed;
educate the public with respect to sustainable growth concepts in the area of stormwater management
For all of the engineers reading this - thank you! For all of the aspiring engineers reading this - you can do it! And for all of the MWRDGC engineers reading this - you are so appreciated! Let National Engineers Week commence!
